Pascal Duval started out in fashion and turned to advertising. From an early age and later as part of his work as a Creative Director, Duval was always drawing. For years the advertising side has absorbed his creativity but finally a balance is found.
Duval paints quickly and with great urgency, as if something inside him, neglected for too long, is fighting its way out. His acrylic and oil pastel works investigate a world of art historical references, symbolic objects, violence, tragedy, popular and counter culture. The eclectic, collage like work is raw, unpolished, full of personal demons, dreams and fears.
In the artist’s usage of materials you can feel this eagerness and his search for narrative and identity – sometimes confident and bold, sometimes naive and vulnerable.
Duval currently lives and works in Amsterdam.
